You may wonder, what is this vagina doing here? And that’s exactly why she’s here. She is showing herself naked and pure, free of judgement. Here I am. There She is.
She is asking us to rethink our beliefs about our own existence. What does she mean as a symbol? Why has she been hidden? Why was she been expelled from the Garden of Eden and thus become the fear of religion?
At this years Context Art Miami you can discover the world premier of ‘Flower of Life’, the largest vagina ever exhibited. Revealed in the light of high-fidelity, she is undressed from thick layers of propaganda. A serene and surreal portait, showing herself in full detail without obscurity, reminding us of our mysterious origin. She is a declaration of our naked, natural truth.
The vulva — the ‘Flower of Life’, is a wonder of nature, a sacred symbol of creation, universally shared yet always uniquely expressed through a complex variety of form, pattern and palette. Freeing the body of misconception and shame in the ongoing cultural war against the human form is a fundamental step towards freedom.

Playboy Germany selected Marisa as one of the 50 artists to art direct a cover for their 50th anniversary issue. We felt this collaboration would be the perfect opportunity to celebrate the vulva and to evoke curiosity and change from within. Mainstream media is in critical need of a more truthful view of women and femininity. We proposed ‘Flower of Life’, but Playboy’s lawyers advised against it — a vulva cannot be publicly displayed on newstands. So we countered with a concept that would playfully mock censorship. What if we would cover Marisa’s flower with thousands of tiny flowers? Playboy enthusiastically said yes. In collaboration with the masterful digital artist Nejc Polovsak we rendered our original image and adhered 30,000+ flowers in different stages of blooming — becoming the first vulva in history on the cover of Playboy.
‘If only I would be a flower’ is a celebration of nature yet it is a longing to be celebrated for the beauty we naturally inhibit. It is a play with the edges of censorship and an anticipation for the freedom that awaits us.
